Moving house can be a huge pain if you don’t do it correctly and can cause incredible stress. But there are ways to ensure that your move is as smooth as possible. At Look At This Home, we’ve seen it all, but we know what the best tips are when it comes to moving house in a smooth and fast fashion.
- Start early
If you know you’re moving, then why wouldn’t you want to start? Sure you won’t want to pack any of your essentials, but you can definitely start packing some of the bits and pieces you won’t be using anytime soon.
- Mark boxes
When you’ve moved, you’ll be thanking your past self for marking boxes. It just makes the unpacking side when you’re in your new house so much easier. You can mark boxes accordingly for things that you’re going to need instantly and things that can wait a little longer to be unpacked. Just grab a black marker and jot down whatever makes it stand out from the rest.
- Designate a packing room
Try and ensure that you pack all of your boxes in one room just to so it limits the chance of you losing anything valuable in the rest of the house. Not only that, but it also means that all of your boxes are in one particular space rather than being spread throughout the house.
Also all of your packing utensils can be in this particular room, so when you’re ready to begin packing some more, everything is exactly where you want it to be.
- Don’t pack heavy
It’s natural to think that those big boxes are supposed to be for the big, heavy items, when in reality, it’s not. Fill the large box with light stuff, and put the heavier items, like books in the smaller boxes. this means that the boxes are much less likely going to break!
- Use bin liners or carrier bags
Boxes are fantastic because of how stable they are, but if you have any soft non-breakables, you can put them in bin liners or carrier bags to reduce the space used.
- Don’t pack air
Most people will empty their drawers, dressers and chests when moving. Don’t. This adds to your packing time and you’ve got some golden space that isn’t being used! Keep them full or fill them up. Even suitcases can be filled!
- Label where the box is going
Again this is just for pure convenience when you’ve moved into your new house but make sure that you label each box with which room they should be going into. This means that anything that’s going into the kitchen should be labelled ‘kitchen’ so you know exactly where it is going.
Hopefully all of these tips can help anyone who is moving understand what they can do to make the move ultimately as easy as possible. Don’t complicate things and get in a stress because you should have done something a couple days ago; be ahead of the big move so it goes as smooth as possible.
